How much is the scholarship?
The funding amount is determined by program of study and if it is a “matching” or “non-matching” scholarship.

NON-MATCHING
These scholarship loans are funded solely by the State of Oklahoma. Amounts listed are based on full-time status and will be adjusted for part-time students.

LPN: $1,750 total for the LPN program.
ADN: $2,000 per academic year, up to two years.
BSN & MSN: $2,500 per academic year, available only for the last two years of the nursing program and obtaining degree.

MATCHING
Assistance is provided on an equal basis by the State of Oklahoma and a sponsoring health institution interested in securing the services of the nurse upon graduation. The scholarship loan amount is set by the sponsoring institution, and is to be based on actual costs of attending nursing school.

The amounts listed are per academic year except for LPN; the amount is for the entire LPN course. Amounts listed are based on full-time status and will be adjusted for part-time students.

Program Minimum Maximum
LPN: $1,000 $3,500
ADN: $1,000 $4,000 Per academic year, up to two years.
BSN & MSN: $1,000 $5,000 Funding is available only for the last two years of program and obtaining degree.

I just found out about the scholarship and only have one year left. Will it pay for what I’ve already taken?
The funding does not cover courses already taken and is available only to students enrolled in an accredited program of study leading to a degree in nursing.

How do I get a sponsor?
The applicant will find and secure a health institution to sponsor them. Make sure it is somewhere you want to work once you are out of school because your obligation will be with that institution. Individuals to speak with are the Nurse Recruiter or Nurse Education Director, Director of Nurses, or Administrator. A sponsor can be a hospital, nursing home, home health, or hospice.

If you have a question about a facility, you should check with our office first, email: pmtc@pmtc.ok.gov (provide health institution name and city).

Remember, you are asking them to invest in you. Present yourself as a candidate whose services they would be interested in securing upon your graduation as a nurse.

Why is it called a scholarship loan?
This is called a scholarship loan because there is a service obligation upon completion of nursing school and licensing.

The recipient is obligated to practice nursing in an Oklahoma medical facility other than in: physician’s offices, wholly or majority physician owned facilities, private duty practice, research, federal facilities, industrial or summer camp nursing. The obligation requirement is one year for each academic year of financial assistance received, minimum one year.

“Matching” recipients are obligated to practice nursing at their sponsoring institution.
